SESSION DETAILS:
Dauntless Air CEO Brett L’Esperance will lead a session outlining the emerging approach of Rapid Initial Attack on wildfires, which focuses on swift, effective suppression of fire starts when they’re still small. L’Esperance will share how places such as Washington State are using Rapid Initial Attack to respond to and suppress fires faster, creating safer and less grueling working conditions for wildland firefighters and reducing the amount of overall spend on fire suppression. With more suppression dollars saved and a less stressed workforce, states and federal agencies can funnel funding and manpower into forest management initiatives, ensuring healthier, less fire-prone landscapes and creating steady, year-round employment for wildland firefighters. To achieve this vision, L’Esperance will describe the shift that is needed in how we view aerial fire suppression – one that moves from a siloed, bureaucratic system to one where all U.S. aerial firefighting resources are viewed as a coordinated, cohesive set of tools that can be used collaboratively across agencies to rapidly attack unwanted wildfires and better protect lives and livelihoods around the country.
