Our Fleet

Dauntless Air is the leading U.S. operator of the AT-802F Fire Boss, a water-scooping air tanker purpose-built for cost-effective aerial firefighting. The company owns and operates 17 amphibious Fire Bosses, which feature the latest in firefighting technology, including thermal imaging units to accurately target hot spots, onboard gel mixing systems to improve drop effectiveness and a lighter fire gate that allows us to carry more water to each wildfire and match our drop pattern to the fire type.

These technological advancements and our ongoing commitment to innovation makes us a more efficient and effective partner in the war against wildfires.

Dauntless Fire Boss, Purpose-Built for Cost-Effective Aerial Firefighting

FIRE BOSS

Single engine scooper

An amphibious air tanker purpose-built for aerial firefighting

Equipped with amphibious floats, Air Tractor’s AT-802F Fire Boss is a fixed-wing single engine scooper that adds another dimension of capability for wildland firefighting operations.

When near a water source, the Fire Boss can perform continuous scoops and drops on a fire for 3.5 hours without needing to return to a tanker base to refill. Given that most human settlement is near water, and at least two-thirds of historical fires in the US have been within ten miles of a scooper-accessible water source, there is undeniable value to adding the Fire Boss to firefighting arsenals.

For years, agencies across the US and around the world have been bolstering their initial and direct response to wildfires by deploying Fire Boss air tankers as coordinated flight groups, adjusting and optimizing their response level based on the fire situation at hand.
